Review: Ek Tha Tiger

Ek Tha Tiger is Salman Khan’s best film since Dabang( I think Sallu fans were the only ones that really appreciated Dabang) if you are a Salman Khan fan. But because his last two films were Ready and Bodyguard, and he didn’t really step into the characters or emote anything this one is quite a surprise because Salman actually gives “acting” a try lol
A few facts, Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger has broken all records in terms of box office collections but I have learned that box office collections don’t necessarily spell out quality as it does in the West. With that being said, Ek Tha Tiger has done well both in dosmetic and International markets!
Ek Tha Tiger provides somewhat of a story that has greater lucidity and emotion than most of the movies that Salman Khan has acted in over the past ten years. The credit in my opinion goes to the director Kabir Khan and the writer duo of Aditya Chopra and Kabir Khan. I feel that they have actually been able to transform the mannequin-like and larger than life Salman Khan into a character that not only does action sequences convincingly but also EMOTE convincingly as best as Salman Khan can in a movie lol . In my opinion, this is the first movie after a very long time where Salman has actually put in the time and effort to emote!

I went into this movie thinking that it would be somewhat of a Bourne Legacy type because come on Salman jumping around and that first theatrical promo promised a lot. However, the movie plays out like a rom-com with doses of well executed action sequences. The initial promos and the first look of the movie were very misleading because this Ek Tha Tiger is all about a RAW agent falling in love with an ISI agent…nothing more and nothing less. The plot is thrown out the window and the move turns into a full blown romance.
I’m not going to get into the plot but once you’re 30 minutes into the movie you basically have a clear idea of what is going to happen next. I expected much more from Kabir Khan and well Yash Raj Entertainment. I mean Kabir Khan’s New York did have its share of plot twists and some great performances. I wish the treatment was a bit different and wasn’t so typical like the Veer-Zaara and Border attempts in having India and Pakistan be friends and all…we got the message a long time ago and we do get along 😛
Ek Tha Tiger doesn’t really wow you with any one performance at all. However, Salman does attempt to emote and act and as a former Salman Khan fan – I was pleased that he was actually trying to get into the mind of the character. I wouldn’t say this is Salman’s best work but it’s not his worst either. Katrina Kaif dances well and looks pretty and honestly she’s only done that since Sarkar. I only saw a glimpse of an actress in Rajneeti and a bit in Mere Brother Ki Dhulan. Here’s hoping that she actually makes more of an effort to act and not just look pretty.
If you’re looking to just go for entertainment then Ek Tha Tiger will definitely provide just that, however if you’re looking to go in with all of your brain and logic intact…you will be extremely disappointed. This one is a typical Bollywood masala entertainer – full of belly dancing songs, exoctic locations, substandard storyline but big punch lines, with larger than life superstars attempting to act lol
I give this one 2.5 out of 5. If you’re still a Salman Khan Fan then check it out in the theaters you probably will end up loving it if you’re NOT a Salman Khan Fan – wait to check it out at home. Save the money for all the amazing movies coming out in the Fall and Winter 
